Back to square one . . .

Some time back, probably six months ago, I speculated that one of the a7cX series cameras might make a good companion for one of the SL series cameras. In between then and now, I reasoned my way through all sorts of scenarios.

One of those was ending up with FF and APS-C bodies, which I thought would be the ideal solution. It would have worked except that the APS-C image quality I hoped for just wasn’t there. And the bulky R glass didn’t balance well on the lightweight FF body.

So instead of the SL2 getting the boot, the a6700 got ditched. It never made sense until after I’d made the move, and then it made perfect sense.

The R glass can be used for wide to short telephoto with manual focus. For shooting a bit longer, the superb autofocus of the a7cII will get paired with a just-added 70-200mm f2.8 GM II, with a 2X added for stalking my less trusting avian friends. The latter will get its first field test tomorrow, ant farm weather permitting.

Yep, once in a while I get it right first time around. It’s when I overthink that I screw up . . .
