Heading out with the SL2 and a few lenses yesterday, I was almost sure I’d be put off by the weight after carrying around the lightweight stuff for a couple of weeks. But once I was outside, weight never entered my mind.
What did enter my mind several times, though, was the difference in how the camera managed AF lenses. First was the AF-C shimmy. Second were the frequent misses on even slow-moving targets. The real difference I noticed, though, after having shot Sony for a while, was the long wake-up time of the SL2 when either an AF lens or the R-Adapter-L is attached.
But there’s no such issue when a dumb adapter is used, as I did this morning in another SL2 outing. With manual focus lenses, it’s nimble and a pleasure to handle in the field. And with lenses of its own brand, IQ is much to my liking.
For some reason I thought the a7C II has a 24mp sensor. Not until yesterday did I realize it has the a7 IV”s 33mp sensor, which is the best FF Sony sensor I’ve used. Image texture holds details nicely at higher ISO settings. And it appears that colors in the a7C II”s version of the sensor are a lot like the a6700, more what I like than what I saw in previous Sony bodies.
So, lots of food for thought lately. Now let me go and see if I can find some “food” for images!
