(see “justification”)

Just as I’m in the process of trying to logicize a switch from L-mount to FE, one of the rumors sites announces that release of the successor to the S1R will be delayed until early 2025, and it’s based on the SL3.

Great.

It’ll be a year-old version of a camera that has a three-year-old sensor and has already been shown to have issues. And other than registration of a few items with regulatory authorities, there’s not even a tease as to what other bodies Lumix might have in the works. For a flea that has dreams of becoming an elephant, being so tight-lipped doesn’t seem like the best strategy . . .

. . . especially when there’ve also been rumors that Panasonic might dump the imaging sector of its business.

Guess that means an APS-C L-mount body, ideal for a travel backup, is not in the cards. It also means the a6700 is looking pretty good right now. Along with more than one of Sony’s full-frame options.

And having just added a few L-mount AF lenses, I’m feeling a bit like I’ve been thrown under the bus by Panasonic. No problem, though, as it reminds me that it’s probably better to step on a bus that’s headed in a definite direction rather than one that isn’t sure whether it even wants to stop or go . . .
